静けさは平和だと考えていた。でも今は知っている——沈黙には重みがある。母の声が消えた古いテープレコーダーのように、去ったはずなのに、忘れない。

先日インディアナ州の祖母の納屋を片づけて見つけたのは、2015年に録音された『花さんの初舞台』というカセットテープだった。看護師として夜勤をこなしていた祖母が、歌手になりたかった頃の夢だ。

その夜、ユニオンステーション近くのアパートで床に座り、ループ再生した。そして偶然『Superstar』というゲームに出会った。それは単なるスマホゲームではなかった——まるで彼女の声が時間を超えて届いたかのように。

だが本当の大切な予算はお金じゃない——時間・注意・感情的空間だ。私はプレイを瞑想のように扱い始めた。「星よ守り」というアイテムは単なるツールではない。願望と自己ケアの中間にある境界線であり、「過去への追跡＝自分自身を失う」ことを教えてくれる光だ。

実際の報酬は勝利ではなく『聞くこと』

昨年1月、シカゴの大雪の中での深夜プレイで意外な変化があった——稀に発動する「エコー・モード」が始動した。音声断片がラウンド間に流れ込む：子供の笑い声、女性による古びたキューバ風メロディー、「mi amor」と囁く不思議な口調…

そのメロディー……母が父亡き後に作ったプレイリスト『Remember Me』の中の一曲だった。「あの曲だけ誰も聴いていなかったのに…」「彼女は意図してそこに残したのか？」「誰かに聴いてほしかっただけなのか？」「それともただ‘聞いてほしい’と思っただけなのか？”
