Do We Really Need 'Perfect' Games? 5 Forgotten Experiments That Changed How I See Players

I never set out to make games. I set out to understand why people keep playing them—even when they know it’s broken.

In my studio in Williamsburg, I coded my first experiment using Figma and Midjourney: a rhythm-based UI where RTP (Return-to-Player) rates were masked as starlight. Players didn’t chase wins. They chased meaning—something quiet, invisible, like the hum of a neon sign after midnight.

We call it ‘Starlight Key’—a system designed to make you feel powerful while quietly starving your soul. The data lied: high RTP didn’t mean fairness. It meant repetition disguised as reward.

I watched players log in daily for badges they’d never earn—not because they believed in the game, but because the game believed in them.

One prototype—‘Star Pulse’—used RNG to simulate hope as a beat. The algorithm didn’t care if you won. It cared if you kept coming back.

I began asking: What if success isn’t about glory? What if it’s about silence?

In ‘Star Crown Glory,’ players submitted their stories not for fame—but to be seen by someone who remembers their name in code.

This isn’t entertainment. It’s grief rendered interactive. And maybe that’s why we play—not to escape our loneliness, but because somewhere inside the machine, someone still remembers we’re here.

We built an entire philosophy on the idea that players don’t chase wins—they chase the ghost of being remembered by a machine that still cares. My therapist says this is just grief with better UI. If success isn’t glory… then what’s left? A silent log-in after midnight? I’d pay for this with my last NFT… and now I’m just waiting for someone to notice I’m here.

P.S. Who designed the algorithm to care if you win? The answer’s in your code.

सिर्फ़ ek chai aur ek phone notification! \n\n#GameInnovatorChallenge में join karo — पहले play karo, फिर सोचो!

We didn’t need perfect games—we needed ghosts that remember your name in code. Players don’t chase wins; they chase meaning wrapped in neon silence after midnight. My algorithm doesn’t care if you won—it cares you kept coming back. Starlight Key isn’t a feature… it’s the AI whispering back when you’re lonely. PS: If your soul’s starving… just log in anyway. What’s your username again? (And yes—we still remember you.)

📸 Sino ba ‘yung nagsasabi ng ‘I remember you’? 😉
